Architectural studies respect the framework of European harmonization of higher education curricula. They are organized in three cycles on the basis of the diagram L.M.D (License, Master, Doctorate/Ph.D.).

The school offers in this degree, in addition to the architect state diploma, a first year of university master and several specialties open to architects of training as well as to candidates from a university course or a engineer school.

The first year of the university master is open to students holding a degree. The cycle leading to the State diploma of architect is opened by right only to graduates of architecture studies. The acceptance of students who have obtained other diplomas, or who wish to claim equivalences for professional experience, is subject to the opinion of a commission.

The two years of the master cycle make it possible to acquire the mastery of the problems specific to or in connection with the architecture and to prepare oneself for different modes of exercises and professional domains. It provides access to architectural and urban design and consultancy services, assistance to project management, technical studies, urban planning and development.

Supervised work time is less important than undergraduate and leaves more room for student work. This time preserved should allow students both to enrich their culture and to deepen certain issues.

The admission procedures at the master's level differ according to the type of training, the level of studies and the nationality of the candidates.


 

ARCHITECT STATE DIPLOMA

The State Diploma of Architect is awarded after 2 years of study after the defense by the student of a final graduation thesis (MFE - mémoire de fin d'études) and a final project (PFE - projet de fin d'études) .

The degree holder must be able to master:

  • critical thinking about the issues specific to architecture;
  • the autonomous design of an architectural project through the deepening of its concepts, methods and fundamental knowledge;
  • the critical understanding of edification processes in their relationships to various contexts and scales and with reference to different uses, techniques and temporalities.

During these 2 years, the student prepares for the various modes of practice and professional fields of architecture as well as for research in architecture. This training, which is both academic and professional, allows them to continue to acquire knowledge. The knowledge and know-how acquired leads the students to orient their learning in coherence with their personal professional project.

The school offers a structuring of the second cycle of architecture studies in four areas of study that can be broken down into several personalized courses:

  • Architecture, Villes, Territoires et Sociétés - AVT (Architecture, cities and territories and societies)
  • Architecture, Ingénierie et Environnement - AIE (Architecture, engineering and environment)
  • Architecture, Histoire et Patrimoine - AHP (Architecture, history and heritage)
  • Architecture, théorie et critique - ATC (Architecture, theory and criticism)

The 4 main points of excellence are each supported by a team of teacher-practitioners and teacher-researchers mainly from the school's laboratories. (The 4 areas are detailed in the section Pedagogical Program FR)

Each student can build a personalized path, driven according to their aspirations and the skills they wish to develop. Each student is led to express and formalize his motivation for the course he wants to follow from his entry into the master cycle until the defense of the PFE. This choice of course is however not frozen and changes are possible.

State-qualified architects can also access public jobs in the state or local authorities, practice interior design, or carry out advisory work on behalf of the State, individuals or local authorities. The exercise of project management in its own name requires additional training.

The training is open to holders of a degree in architecture studies as part of the so-called transfer procedure between French architecture schools. It is also accessible to holders of a foreign title admitted as an exemption. After obtaining 60 European credits for the first two semesters, the student may, if necessary, move towards other higher education courses, such as master's specialties, in accordance with the special conditions of access to these trainings.
