The different study degrees ENSarchitecture nancy has to offer

The bachelor courses are for the most part common to all students; this degree allows you to acquire the basics:

  • An architectural culture;
  • The understanding and practice of the architectural project by the knowledge and experimentation of concepts, methods, and knowledge related fundamentals;
  • Of the design process in its reports to various contexts and scales and with reference to uses, techniques, and temporalities.

The first degree of higher education prepares for the continuation of studies in architecture. This course of study also allows the student, thanks to the evaluation of his aptitudes, to move towards other higher education courses. These can be professional training such as professional licenses, in compliance with the conditions access to these training courses and fields close to architecture such as project management, heritage management, mastery work, etc. Bridges exist with other training courses allowing a reorientation. The student admitted in the first year has two years to validate the inherent teaching units, except for special cases (students employees, cancellation of the year for medical reasons, etc.).

An internship, known as a "worker internship" of at least three weeks, must be completed during the first year. The host organization is a wholesale or finishing of the building or a company working for the construction. A second internship of three weeks in the second year allows a first discovery of professional life. A third internship must be completed at the end of the third year.

Graduation from architecture studies is required to be accepted in the master degree. Alternative orientations are proposed to students who wish to change their course after the second or the third year. The bachelor is issued after having checked that the student has validated a level B1 in language.

  • Master degree

The second cycle is open to all students holding a degree in architectural studies. The reception of students who have obtained foreign diplomas, or wanting to assert equivalences thanks to professional experience, is subject to the opinion of an admissions committee.

This degree cycle continues, deepens and specializes the knowledge acquired during the bachelor degree. It participates in the constitution of the architectural discipline and forms the different professions in which this discipline will be exercised. It is organized in four differentiated areas. Each domain privileges a particular disciplinary aspect around a teaching team.

Fields of study: architecture, city, and territory - architecture, engineering, environment - architecture, history, and heritage - architecture theory and criticism.

Within a field of study, options may be chosen ("research" orientation or "applied practice" orientation). Teaching modules can be shared among several areas.

Higher education must preserve a "personal" time to enable students to widen their culture in all the diversity of the term and truly deepen one or two issues. That's why framed work time is less important and leaves a more significant part to the student's personal work.

The second cycle includes an internship of two to four months. It unfolds in an architecture or urban planning agency or an organization being in charge of construction, consulting, development or research...

Mastery of a foreign living language is a condition for obtaining the Master degree.
